Yesterday after milking we took the cows and bull to the vet to get vaccinated (don't have a head gate yet and I didn't trust Jeff's idea of just trying to give the shots while they were eating). Anyways, our regular milk cow got a fly tag, wormed with Cydectin, and a shot of Vira Shield 6 + L5 HB, and got preg checked (yay finally got her to stick, due in November). Anyways, last night she acted fine, but this morning she seemed a bit sluggish coming thru the gate and onto the stanchion, and back out, just acted like she didn't feel quite well, didn't really care to move seemed like. And the amount of milk she gave was less this morning. I know they say you dint have to withhold milk after any of the things she got, but with her acting a little "off" I decided to withhold (except the calf got his and the kittens of course). Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned? It also dropped about 15 degrees today and is rainy didn't know if she could just be cold.
Also one other thing, the same cow has a little sore that she gets right between her front to quarters but slightly up. The first time i seen it I really freaked out and the vet said to cull her, but you don't buy registered cattle to cull (or I don't). But I figured out she is scraping herself with her dewclaws. I was talking to a lady at the feed store about this, as I just put some bag balm on it when milking and just as soon as its about healed it gets scraped again. Anyways, they lady suggested trying to trim her dewclaws. Not taking a bunch off but taking little nippers and trimming the edge off? I don't know if I should try it. What do you think? Or do you know of something else that I should try?
Thanks
Heather
