This is my Poppy! She's a 7 yo Jersey. I'm not sure if she is full or mixed. I didn't even think to ask. She's due to calf in about a month.
We have her at my mother in laws right now but will be moving her to our new home Easter weekend. The plan is for my dh and dad to drive the moving trucks and I'll drive her down in the trailer.
She absolutely hated the drive to my mil's place. She was really ticked off when we pulled in the drive. She did settle in nicely though. Mil feeds her in the evening and I go out each morning and feed her. I put her on her lead and walk her around the pen so she gets used to me leading her, then I brush her as she eats.
She *loves* being brushed and being scratched behind her ears. When I was out Wednesday, I stopped scratching her and just stood next to her. She laid her head in the crook of my arm then started nudging until I started scratching her again!
I'm kind of worried about moving her next weekend. I'm hoping that since it is all straight highway and not coming down twisty canyons, she'll do better with it. We have her stall all cleaned and ready for her. All we need to do is put down clean bedding for her once she is there.
I've been reading like crazy here, looking at the photos of cows getting ready to calve and my girl is HUGE compared to the ones I am seeing. She has calved before and done really well. I'm hoping this one goes easy for her too. I've talked to a large animal vet where we are moving and he said he'd be happy to come check her out when we get her there as well as be available if we need him when she calves.
If anyone has advice on how to make the move easier for her, I'm all ears. Or is it eyes since we are reading?
We've only had her a week, but I am head over heels in love with my girl!
