Hi Guys
I've been a long time watcher of this forum, and have been reading the daily journal for ages and ages now. I'm about to buy my first "own" cow, so I thought it was time i joined for reals and said hi.
My name is Morgan, and I'm 27, I'm very happily married to an amazing and tolerant man (Shaun) and we have recently been blessed with our first child, a daughter, Lillien.
We live in Queensland, Australia - about an hour's drive north of Brisbane (so, south-east QLD) and have recently been able to move to a 2.5 acre property after living on a 3/4 block for ages.
We've always had chickens (Croad Langshans, and Coronation Sussex) and my two Great Danes are 5 years old. We're very interested in permaculture, and although we're not going to build our house out of straw bales, we try to do everything as naturally as possible.
We brew our own beer, mead, & cider, and I occasionally have a go at wine, using mulberries or elderberries depending on the season.
I bake our household bread goods, and make pasta using the yummy free range eggs from our birds. I also keep our food gardens, where we keep all sorts of herbs, but also any kind of veggie I can coax from the soil.
I am currently hunting for my own housecow, I'd prefer a Guernsey - in calf with calf at foot - at least until i work out how much milk we will really go through. (at the moment we us about 2L a day, plus my sibling's families want raw milk!)
Once bought, I will handmilk (i used to live with people who kept a 10-head herd of jerseys, i used to work their dairy for milk - all hand milked!)
look forward to documenting my daily adventures on our own little slice of paradise! Regards,, Morgan
