We have had Rosie for one week now so I thought I would check in and let you all know how it has been. My hands have never been so sore, and one is actually swollen! But I am getting the hang of it now. I can milk her in about 45 minutes. I really don't know how you people who have 5+ gallon a day girls do it! It would take me hours!
We have had her feet trimmed, and the vet has been out to see her. We found a new vet that I absolutely love! She is culturing the one quarter for us to see what exactly we have going on. She thinks Rose is in good health over all - just needs some good food.
We have been milking out her bad quarter a couple times a day. We haven't been able to get much from it at each milking, but yesterday and today we have been able to get a lot more. The color has been pretty normal with a few chunks now and then. But then this evening the milk was pink. What is that about? I still got more than usual. I thought we were on the right track but now I am afraid we might not be. Hopefully we can get this cleared up soon. I have some Today arriving tomorrow. The vet told me to go ahead and treat her with it while we wait for the culture to come back.
She is getting free choice grass hay, grain and alfalfa at milking, pasture (although it's not the best), free choice loose minerals and vitamin E with her grain at milking. Anything else I should be thinking about?
Here is a picture of the two girls. Rose is on the left and June on the right. Rosie isn't really much taller than June who is only a year old. She is a really nice size. And so very sweet! She doesn't really liked to be loved on much, but she is very patient and easy going.
Thanks all for your help with everything. It has been quite a week!
