I haven't had a vet come out yet since we got our cow about 7 wks. ago. She was AI'd on 1/25 but was not confirmed before we got her on 2/13. Now, she has a bad back left leg caused by a fall she took about 3 or 4 yrs. ago (she's 5 1/2) that left her knee and lower leg looking well... different. Swollen knee, walks a little funky. And her back left quarter was defined as "blind" when we bought her although it has started dripping when we milk her. All of this was caused by an infection that came about when she hurt her leg. She got excited and fell about 2 wks. ago and struggled for about 5 minutes before getting up. Before that time, she seemed to be walking better since we brought her home and her knee was no longer as inflamed. Now it seems more obvious again since her fall. Moving on.... my husband noticed tonight that her left side of her abdomin is bulging and "pregnant looking" but not her right side. I went and looked and he's right. We've been keeping track of when she should heat if not settled but have seen no sign that she is open or in heat. But if she's only about 10 wks. pregnant, would we be able to see from the outside? Do they carry off to one side in the beginning? I give you all that back story because I wonder if the fact that her whole left side is out of whack has anything to do with the bulge. Or could she have eaten something she shouldn't have and it caused intestinal stuff?
I know we need to just have a vet come out and palpate her and check out her leg (although I'm confident that there's nothing that they can really do at this point) but in the meantime, I just can't help trying to educate myself on what signs she might exhibit if pregnant and what this bulging left side means.
