Im not sure what is happening, but it seems we have been dealing with diarreha for a while now. Porter, started about 2 weeks ago. I had decided to let him down in the pasture and barn with the big girls. then he started with the diarreha and looked OFF.. staring eyes, feed down ect. Our weather turned to crap over nite, went from nearly dry to probably 10" of mud, lots of rain as well. they have access to the barn. I checked his temp and he was 101.6 when I brought him up the hill back to his stall. I treated him for coccidia for 6 days with a corid drench. he started to turn around then started again, I did pro biotic and electrolyte treatment, and grass hay. he seems better today but tomorrow can be different. Now, Clarice, his mother, is dealing with diarreha, and her milk has gone down a gallon a day. of course all this happens when she is due to cycle AND when we bring in more hay.
The mud is horrid. We have to force her out to eat as she will hang in the barn all day and not eat. We dropped her grain WAYYY down in the am. she gets about 3 cups. this has forced her to HAVE to go the the hay, we did increase about a qt the first day. But she still has the diarreha. I have done the probiotic, and the bounceback electorlytes on her. I DONT want to treat with medicine IF I dont have to. Mike DUMPED all their water, and scrubbed the tanks, and refilled with well water. we were afraid with all the run off there may be some contamination of the creek water.
Now Adelle, who is due in late June/early July, is FINE. no diarreha, no problems what so ever...
We are having second thoughts of keeping a heifer calf of clarices. seems both she and her son have very sensitive systems.
I need suggestions for Clarice and her poops. I worry about her becoming dehydrated, which she probably already is somewhat. The coughed and shot poop across the barn, narrowly missing, yours truely. and we wont even mention the condition of the barn every day when we clean it..
thanks
Tif
