:)I went and bought the 3 day old Jersey bull today. He's almost as big as Spring Clover at 1 month today. I guess I wasn't as prepared for him as I should have been. The man I bought him from kept giving me instruction on how to take care of him. I'm glad as that makes me think he really cares for his cows. Talk about beautiful herd, he's got one. The bull that produced this little one and many little heifers on this farm is fantastic looking. Quite dark over most of his body but under body a bit lighter. Just fine. The owner had one really pretty little cow that he said is a throw-back, possibly to the Isle of Jersey type, as she is very dainty. She's about to be dried off. I didn't ask if he's interested in selling her but I sure wanted too. Talk about cowaholic, I was drooling pretty bad. I don't really know where I'd put another cow but if I could...oh well enough dreaming. He had one that he calls amazon cow as she was very skinny and he said he just couldn't put any weight on her. She is one of the best producers. Another one he will be sending to sale as she settles and will carry it for about 60 days and the aborts. She was really a lovely heifer but if she can't carry a calf then I guess that's what one would do.
The previous owner of Chuck told me not to put him in with Spring Clover until they are weaned. Ant that I should wean them when they are taking about 4 lbs. of grain daily. He has only been giving him two quarts of milk twice daily. Should I inch it up a bit? I'm going to have to juggle calves a bit after I milk as I have to take Grace out through the area where Clover will be now. I just thought I could put them together and they could keep each other happy. I know I don't want Clover getting sick or him either. Any suggestions?
