Some people's husbands may keep mistresses in other states when they are on business trips but my DH befriends and keeps cats in different states.
He's been working on a long-term project in PA and has been living in a rented house instead of a hotel. The house is in a rural area (he's even able to go get raw milk from a farmer down the road!) and is surrounded by cornfields. Apparently, stray cats live in these cornfields too and they found Max in his big ol' house.
First, it was Chester, the starving wild cornfield cat. Max got him all tamed down and now Chester is a very friendly, sleek cat. He took Chester to the vet and got him all his shots and then got him neutered. But not before Chester introduced him to his friend, Betty, a kitty who looks an awful lot like she could be his sister. The vet thought Chester was about two years old. Betty is WAY preggers and Chester is probably "dad" (or one of them anyway).
Max came home for Christmas and knew he'd be home for about three weeks. He didn't want Betty having her kittens in PA (without him) so he brought her home on the 10 hour car trip to Maine. There is someone staying at the house who is feeding Chester while Max is away.
Betty has been here for a week getting to know the ropes and meeting the other cats. They are not pleased about Betty - she doesn't seem to care either way about them. She is now confined inside a large dog crate and she's making some interesting trilling-type cat noises. Her "pins" are starting to relax and she's taking on this squared-off look in the rear end. I think it will be soon. You can actually see her sides writhing!
I've had cats all my life but I've never seen kittens born. It's pretty nerve-wracking! I'm starting to time her trilling sounds to see if I detect a pattern
