Every several months or so Lacy my little blind (cataracts) bichon frise X poodle has an apparent panic attack she wants to be held and is panting frantically even it is cold or cool in the house and she wants her nose at my neck. This happened during the day a week or so ago and I was very busy and could not sit and hold her for hours waiting for it to pass, so she stayed at my feet within 2 or 3 inches from me, bouncing up and down for a long time while I scooted around doing my stuff, seems it was shorter lived if I sort of pushed her away and ignoring it. But some she has at night, she just had one and it was shorter lived than the last night time one several months ago, she wants to sleep with me and will try to dig a hole in my shoulder and just go spastic on me. My husband is not real understanding usually. He says put her in her crate, but she normally would be fine if I did that when she is having an attack she will go nuts trying to get out. I feel guilty and usually let her out and sleep on the couch with her. I am afraid she could be actually having a heart attack and how would I feel if she died in her crate and I paid her no attention. I know that is silly, but she is like my daughter, I love her insanely as does everyone in my family. I ordered some rescue remedy. I don't know what else to do, any suggestions.
Last summer I got extremely ill and had very high fever for over a week, I was constantly taking my temp with a dig. thermometer and it would beep when it was ready. That sound of the beeping sets her off now. If the boys are looking at the camera and it beeps she runs to me and will start panicking like that wanting me to hold her. Usually when she is sure the camera goes away she will be fine. I wonder if she relates that sound to my being so sick? She stuck to me like glue when I was sick in bed for over a week.
But these other panic attacks are similar, but much worse and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to set her off. She usually sleeps on a pillow under my bed, well she was under the bed and started bumping around I could hear her bumping into the wall seemed lost, strange for her and when she got out I let her out of my room and she ran to the boys room because they will let her sleep in their beds with them. That is where she usually sleeps when it is cold, which is not now. Anyway she came back really fast and was panicking. I gave her some raw milk and some cheddar cheese and she seems to have calmed down pretty fast.
One thing she has had 2 seizures, a couple of years or more ago, one after she had an accident jumping off the couch and landed hard off her feet and smacked the side of her head really hard, then she had another one about a month later. But she has never had another. I worry about her running into stuff her poor nose catches a lot since she is blind.
Any suggestions?
