It has been an incredibly busy long weekend here!
(It was Alberta's Family Day today!). My ebay sales went nuts, which is good, but the communication and packaging kept me busy, and Jesse hasn't been feeling too good-I think he is getting a two year molar. So he has been up several times a night, just crying. Poor lil guy! Good thing Tabitha is still sleeping well (knock on wood!)
I moved Gabi and Garth to the barn on Sat-went quite well! But of course, it means extra chores and a new routine to get used to! I milked Gabi this am for the first time (I must admit, I felt a bit like a meanie, locking Garth away from his Mommy Sun nite-they are only a panel away, but still....And he wasn't too impressed, watching me get HIS brekkie, LOL!! Gabriella was an angel, just stood there, even while Jesse opened and closed the barn door in her face! She did startle when he finally decided he'd had enough, and threw a wing ding of a fit, practically in her grain bucket, but settled quick. I only got a little ove half a gallon, but that had more to do with my shortcomings than hers-my wrists were like limp noodles-guess I'm a little outta practice!! I couldn't wait-took the milk straight to the house, strained it, and had a cupful warm-something I've never done before, but it was quite good! The creamline isn't much to brag on, but, as I missed the last bit of milking, I'm sure it will improve. Tomorrow I intend to finish the milking off, in order to help with production, as well as give us more milk-but today, I'm glad Garth was there to happily do it for me!!
And-I won a Cheesypress cheese press on Ebay!! Yay! It has been used once, and I only pd 43.00 US for it! Hoping to be able to experiment with cheesemaking soon!! Dad had given me 50.00 for my birthday (on Feb 24) to put towards a cheese press, so I'm happy it worked out!!
He was here today to pick up his new puppy (or new, adopted daughter as they put it-you should see them-once a month they have "liver night" where their dog gets her own plate at the table, and, as she is picky and won't eat huge chunks-they invariably end up eating cold liver, 'cause they were so busy cutting up the dogs' food, LOL!!). And I can recount a time, several years ago, when I was helping Dad work cattle, before he had any equipment. There was this incredibly spun out Charolais, who ended up running over top of me-and Dad just told me to get up! It then kicked Lisbeth (the Heeler before Amanda). Dad was over there in the dirt right away-all over her, checking for broken bones, etc!!! My uncle was just dumbfounded-and mentioned it to Dad-we still laugh about it-Now!!Anyways, they love heelers, (woudn't have any other breed) and have one, Amanda Jane who is about 8 years. They wanted another, but they wanted it to be a redXblue-thats all they ever have. As luck would have it, a friend of mine's Hubby raises heelers, and had a litter born Dec 29. So I "booked" a puppy and they even gave him pick of the litter!! So that was their Christmas gift from me-they were SO incredibly happy!!
So that is the news here! I'll quit rambling now, and head off to bed-need my energy for another round of milking tomorrow!!
