And this one may really get dropped right there in the pen!
I can't get this stupid witch loaded!
She actually tried to run me over yesterday evening!
And we're talking a 2 y/o Angus butcher heifer that's pushing 1100 lbs.
I sold several this past week(Fancy went too), and this one has managed to slip back out each and every time I've tried to load her. Actually had her all the way up in the trailer Monday, but the rope I had the door tied back with wouldn't quick-release (damp/rainy) and she and another one managed to squeeze back out before I got the door shut (at least the other 3 stayed in).
Then yesterday, I got the other one up in the trailer and willing to stay (feed), and this one spun around in the alleyway and wouldn't go in the trailer, so for fear of losing the one I already had in there, I gave up and left her. After getting back from the salebarn I decided to try again since she's alone in that pen now, figuring after what I'd already been through it wasn't going to hurt my feelings at all to make her stay in the trailer from last night until tomorrowing morning, but that attempt didn't go any better.
I made sure she saw me put her feed in the trailer, she went into the alleyway without any problem (thought I had it licked then!), but she got right up to the back of the trailer then spun around, hit the panel hard, busting a rail off of it, she went rocketing past me and hit the closed gate at the end of the alleyway, knocking it off of it's hinges, which put her back into her pen. When I got back behind her to try again, she went for me. I had to literally beat her on top of the head with a 3" limb to get her to turn away from me. So I fixed the gate and left her in her pen.
So, I have one last idea before shooting her -- she hasn't been fed since our little "incident" last evening, her feed is in the trailer. With any luck at all hunger will drive her into the trailer when I go out and open it up in a little while.
Otherwise, she's going to get a broadhead right in the center of the forehead (we don't even own a gun, we have crossbows & compound bows).
She's not worth risking anybody's safety, and if she escapes while trying to load her, she'll have to be shot anyway.
