You may remember me posting a while ago about losing our dogs.

Well we had not planned to get another quite so soon, but our 10 year old daughter volunteers at the animal shelter with the cats. I couldn't help myself and went into the dog section....and well......now we have a beagle. We had not thought about getting a beagle but....
His write up on the shelter's web page read like this.......
Hello, my name is Monkey, which is what I act like when left alone. I was surrendered to the shelter because I have some separation anxiety. These nice people at the shelter are going to try and help me deal with the anxiety and hopefully improve the behavior a little. However it'd be great if someone was willing to work with me in a home setting. The shelter can be loud and not a great place for a dog who is so fretful. If you think you can help, please contact the shelter and give me a try. I'm sure the people here will be willing to help you work with my anxious behavior. Other then me not liking being left alone, I am a wonderful dog. Well mannered and loving. I like to play, but I'm not overly hyper and am very easy tempered.
So since we are almost always home (we are a homeschooling family and DH works from home), and have worked with dogs with behavior issues before - we just thought we might be the right family for him.
He fairly well behaved. He knows No and Sit and walks pretty well on a leash. He is about a year an a half old. He seems to be a real kid's dog - something our other dogs were not. He is great, and I'm not sure he would have found a home if we had not taken him.
We are crate training him and have yet to leave him alone - we've had him about a month. He's doing really well with the crate training and we are taking him to obedience classes.
He's really smart and eager to please. His only bad habits are not liking to be left alone, and he's a chewer BIG time. He not only chews things that are left laying around, but he goes looking for things to chew . Hopefully with nicer weather and more exercise the chewing will diminish. I think he does it because he is bored. It could also be a bit of puppy behavior - the shelter said he was about a year and a half old, but I think he might be younger.
Wish us luck in training him NOT to go after the chickens. We are hoping to let him run loose with supervision.
We named him Sprocket.
Here are a couple of pictures.
Chewing his new bone - just after arriving home
We kept him on a leash for the first hour or so
Nice and comfy bed
Thank you for letting me share.
