:-/Don't know why but two days ago Grace gave an abundance of cream. I'm milking only once a day now and her production went from almost 4 gal. per day to just at 3 per day as soon ad I stopped the evening milking. I had too much going on to keep up the twice a day milking. I still keep her 6 month old calf away from her all the time. I thought she was letting down pretty much completely but I have never seen so much cream as Wednesdays'. One of the gallon jars was close to 1/2 cream and the other two at least 1/4. I was hoping for another day of this yesterday but that didn't happen. Joann, I know you had gone to ODM a while back. Have you switched back to twice a day? Did production falter at first? We just got two good round bails of fescue and clover for Grace and Hassie. We put one in the lower pasture where Grace spends her days and the other in the pasture behind the barn where Hassie stays during the day and Grace during the night. We are hoping the hay will help her production. What do you think? I would like to start cutting back on her grain a bit but if I short her much she starts dancing about when she is finished, at milking time. I'm definately going to try some other routine with her next lactation. I haven't quite decided what but perhaps the grain after milking and alfalfa pellets during. I made some cottage cheese this past weekend for my older brother and he loved it. I hadn't been satisfied with any I had made so far but am trying some for my husband today.
