I've been away for a couple of months and thought that you might like an update on Ms. Helen Heiferlump.
Is she bred? I never did get her preg checked but I am hoping that she is preggers. She is now four months along, if she is. She hasn't had any heats per se but sometimes she does do 3 out of 5 of her heat behaviors just to keep me guessing. I have decided to chalk it up to pregnancy hormones. One of her tried and true heat behaviors is getting as close to Sophie's pig pen as she can and hurling insults at her all day long. She has not done this since she was AI'd in February.
Here she is in early May, just as things were starting (barely) to green up. She was out of sorts and was letting me know it.
Her hooves and feet continued to bother her after her bout with laminitis. That is until Dave Hunter, the hoof trimmer came. He changed her whole outlook on life. I was sure she must have sole ulcers but Dave found no ulcers. He trimmed and scraped and sanded off lots of hoof. When he released her out of the contraption, she was quite angry - to put it mildly.
A couple of days after hoof trimming, we let her out of the barn yard because the grass was finally long enough to graze. She acted like we'd been starving her. Does this look like a starving cow?
Helen also celebrated her 13th birthday in May
Maple leaves are a delicacy!
And here she is yesterday getting a hug from Max (he didn't know I was taking pictures).
We LOVE her!
