I know this subject is getting old but Ingy just cycled again after I had her with the bull during her last cycle. If bred last time she would have calved in late October and I decided that was absolutely as late a calf as I wanted in this area. Anyway, she's open, I know this because when she's in heat she travels. Yup, just packs her bags and goes, no note or nuthin'. I found her at the neighbors (no bull there but other cows). Poor Ginger followed along ( trying to be the voice of reason I'm sure) and ended up gettin stuck in his hay barn, yup stuck. She squeezed herself along the stacked hay until she got to the back of the barn. At that point she had to make a right turn, there was bout one cow length of space there before she dead ended. There she was, stuck. When she backed she ran into the hay, she couldn't figure out to angle her body back into the aisleway, she just kept trying to go straight back. I had to spiderman climb the hay and shoo her backward (from above her)while kicking at her hip to get her to turn . I finally got her and her hussy "sister" back home and milked. Bummed that Ingy is not bred and I don't want to try again until spring. Hopefully, I can keep her in milk for that long.
Is there anything I should have checked out on her? She is a one time freshener. I believe she was a teenage mom because her bangs tattoo is an 07. She's very small, about mini Jersey size so I wonder if the bull had a hard time reaching her . I had originally thought to let her grow up a little and not breed her until next spring anyway. Anyone have experience with this scenario?
Thanks,
Blaire
