Yesterday, three weeks to the day from when the vet gave her the hormone shot and declared her open, she was AI'd. We had arranged with the Genex AI tech to come on Saturday and he had the semen we wanted - Genex Jersey bull - Nicholas. Saturday morning he let us know that he was going to be too far away to make it but had given our info to another AI tech in our area and he would be the one to do it if we still needed someone to come out. Oh, and he didn't know if the other guy had Nicholas in his tank or not (the guy's not affiliated with any of the AI companies).
As promised, the other guy showed up early Saturday evening. He did not have any Nicholas straws but he did have the Genex Jersey bulls, Impuls and Roullette. I quickly went and pulled up both sire sheets on the computer and we picked Impuls, even though he's on the tall side. I hope he's a good choice.
Helen was not acting heat-y yesterday at all. The only sign was the slime wrapped around her tail. When the AI tech pulled his arm out a huge long string of slime came out with it. He said she felt like everything was as it should be and seemed to think the timing was OK because of how well she stood but said he would be available on Sunday too if we thought it necessary.
So today, she's really heat-y. She's amorous, doing her whole python neck thing, a lot of nostril flaring and blowing, galumphing and giving Sophie the pig, the hairy-eyeball......we're calling the tech back to AI her again this evening. Does that sound foolish?
