Well, all this time I have thought that Gigi was due the 21st of Dec., and I guess I was told the wrong due date by word of mouth. I was looking at her reg. certificate just now (11pm), and just happened to glance at the date she was serviced (AI), and saw it said 3-03-o8. So now, that puts her due around 12-10, which is 2 weeks sooner than I was expecting!
She is getting very large, and unlike Belinda's heifer pregnancy, there is much more room for the calf to hide, and I felt the calf for the first time tonight! I was so excited. She has been dry for a long time, so she has absolutely NO bag whatsoever. She has begun to swell in her vulva, starting a week or so ago. She is just BIG and tired a lot, just like all of us with several pregnancies in our past ;D
Anyways, the reason I even logged on was to ask a question about her bad quarter, that was lost to mastitis, then at the same time realizing her true date of breeding On to the quarter question.
As I said, she has one quarter lost to mastitis. I do not know when it happened or how. She will be 5 on the 19th of Nov, so this must be her 3rd calf. She has not begun to bag up yet, but tonight I noticed that the blind quarter seems to be swelling and appears somewhat tender to the touch, only this quarter. Is this womething I need to worry about, and if so, what to keep an eye out for? We have about 6 weeks to go before calving.
***Modified to add some photos. She really doesn't seems hot or anything in the quarter, maybe it is my imagination. You can see that the bad quarter is bigger than the others, lots of scar tissue, and the teat is damaged. Maybe that is what led to the mastitis?
What do you think?
