Lots going on here and I'm tired. However, when I read of everyone else's troubles I just shut my mouth quickly and count my blessings.
The good news is I sold Hopie late last week via Craigslist. She went to an older VT couple who couldn't afford a more expensive heifer and were happy to have her. They have a Jersey bull they will breed her to in the spring. I felt very sad to see her go but thrilled for her.
I picked up a 3-day old Jersey bull calf on Saturday. His name is George Clooney. He is happy and bouncy and naturally Katika loathes him and their only encounters are when she's in the stanchion (though he is stalled in 1/4 of her stall, walled off so she can just reach over and sniff).
My question is -- and it's terrible that my memory is so bad -- is orangey runny poop something to be concerned about? I think of baby milk poops as being yellow/orange. These are just orange, about the consistency of slightly thickened canned pumpkin. I haven't been too worried because I figured he was switching over to Katika's milk. But it suddenly occurred to me that perhaps I should be worried.
Thanks for any thoughts. I hope to be more involved soon. I have been trying to beat the weather and finish my barn and the cabin I was building for my husband. Got the cabin finished (though only 2/3 painted) and all the animals are indoors in the barn tonight as we are due for 12" snow. However the sheep are missing one wall to their stall and they're held in by random boards. Nevertheless, little by little, I'm getting it done.
