This is funny. This morning, Bandit came in to be milked and got in her stanchion as usual while I got the horses situated and fed, then I brought her hay and she started eating and I started milking. I noticed she was holding her tail out, though, and I kept waiting for her to poop or something, but she didn't. After a few more minutes, I started getting worried, wondering if she was maybe in pain or something. But she was eating fine, and letting her milk down for me, so I kept going, although I was twitchy and nervous the whole time, waiting for the big plop! LOL! She cut a few really big long windy farts, too, which was kind of weird, but I figured if she was doing that, there wasn't a bloat problem or anything. (I did get up and walk around to her left side to check that, but on Bandit it's hard to tell.)
Then when her milk slowed down I brought Cricket out of the stall and let her get her started again, then pulled her off and put her back in the stall. The whole time, the tail was still out. I finished up finally, and as soon as I picked up the bucket and stool and walked away, I heard splat. And SPLAT. SPLATSPLATSPLATSPLAT! SLPAAAAATTTTTTT!!!! Oh. My. God. I have never in my life seen such a huge pile of poop! It was gigantic! I just stood there watching with my mouth hanging open, wondering when, or IF, it would ever stop! LOL!
I couldn't let Cricket back out to nurse until I cleaned it up, and I'm not kidding, I filled the front half of my big scoop shovel THREE TIMES just to get the worst of it off the floor of the stanchion! What a huge mess!
The only thing I can figure is that she had to go pretty bad, but she was waiting until I was finished before she let fly. She's been really good about that - she hasn't pooped or peed in her stanchion since the first week I started milking, which I really appreciate. So this morning I had to scoop poop, but at least she was considerate enough to wait until me and my buckets were out of the way so we didn't get splashed (and oh my did it splash!). LOL!
