We recently purchased this beautiful bovine from Roseanna, and Sally from KFC was kind enough to deliver her to use!! ;D
This is Charlotte. She freshened in May for her first lactation. She is 7/8 jersey and 1/8 norwegian red. Isn't she built so well? I just adore her.
When we were cow shopping, Roseanna and her dad let us come to their farm. It was not my usual experience where the farmer is trying to sell you his overpriced cull cow as fast as possible.
With Roseanna, I could pretty much buy any cow they had and they were willing to answer all of my questions HONESTLY. They told me if they thought a particular cow i was interested in might not be a good choice for us (like not an ideal temperment for children, etc.) So we were able to carefully narrow down to three cows that would meet my needs. One of the three was actually Sigel which Sally ended up buying.
The cows at that dairy are treated so calmly and gently. Roseanna and her dad seem very in tune with their cows and emotions/needs. It's very cool to see Mr. Rockwell working with his cattle. He's very laid back and relaxed.
I am so amazed by Charlotte. She knows when it's milking time and will be waiting for me! I don't have to hunt her down and bribe her with grain to get milked. She has never ever kicked me. She's incredibly gentle. We jokingly call her a robot cow because she always does what she's supposed to. If I touch a spot on her neck after milking, she will back up and leave the stanchion even if there is still grain!!! She has a very lovely disposition which I think is due to the Rockwell's breeding program and just how they overall treat their cows.
I'm incredibly grateful that Roseanna and her dad were willing to sell me such an amazing cow, and I don't say that lightly. I'd been hunting around for a while and it seemed like most people only wanted to sell cows with a problem. I'm thankful too for their patience and honesty. If they have any more cows to sell, I 100% recommend buying from their dairy farm (just don't call it a dairy - it's a dairy farm!).
