What a strange milking I had this morning. Normally, I get a full gallon at morning milking, and a hair less than that in the evenings (because there are less hours between morning and evening milking). This morning, Bandit wouldn't let down for me AT ALL. She usually gives me half a gallon, then shuts down until I put Cricket on to start her up again, then I get the other half gallon, but all I could get out of her this morning was tiny little squirts.
I went ahead and put Cricket on her and the milk started flowing, so I pulled her back off and milked for about 5 minutes before it slowed down again. (Insert bad words here...) So I put Cricket BACK on, and milked at the same time she was nursing, and still got nothing. It was like she was empty, but she should have had at least another half gallon in there on my side.
The only thing different this morning than usual was that just as I sat down to milk, it started raining, HARD. It was roaring on the metal roof of the barn. Plus the wind was blowing and that old barn creaks, so there was a lot of noise. However, Bandit didn't SEEM to be upset, she was just standing there eating her alfalfa, not moving around a lot or anything.
Is it possible she was just nervous about the noise of the wind and rain and that's why she wouldn't let down? I feel kind of cheated today! LOL! Well, I'm sure Cricket got plenty after I turned them out in the pen (the rain had stopped by then). I left them together for an hour to make sure Cricket got her empty.
