Hello everyone! It will take me awhile to catch up as we've been off for a few months, our computer got zapped by lightening!
Any how I hope this is the right place to post this....
As some of you may remember we have had a hard time with the flavor of Springs cream and the butter I make from it. It was strong, kind of cheesy too. We tried EVERYTHING!
Well this spring it was getting worse, even tasting it in the milk, bitter...yuck!
I was using Neem oil on her to stop the gnats from chewig up her udder and ears during their peak season...spring. I did a taste test of the Neem and OH BOY ;D it was bad REAL bad!
So DAH I was rubbing the oil directly on her skin and as an essential oil it was doing it's job by penetrating her tissues!
So you ask what about the rest of the time? Cause this has been happening ever sense she came home over 1 1/2 yrs ago!
Well I looked at the udder balm I've been using and loved and bingo, essential oils!
Now this may not happen to everyone as I spoke to some herbalist friends of mine as Springy just may be the type to "hold" stuff in her system. So we stopped using stuff with ANY odor or flavor on her and dried her off for 2 months. She was due to calve in Sept.
well she calved and VIOLA!!!!!!
Her milk tastes great and the cream is sweet with no off flavors...so then i made butter...
YIPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! it is great!
So now we milk wuth sunflower oil only and i;ll have to find something else in the spring for the bugs but it is well worth it!
