We had to take the male goat we were borrowing back to our friend last night. She sold him and his new owner wanted him (fine with me...stinky thing..anyway...)
While I was there I told her about Buttercup, our purebred jersey, not being pregnant after all. She told me I could bring BC there if I wanted to. She's got a bull that gave them a lot of twins this year and low birth weights that we could put her in with. They raise Angus and angus crosses. Not sure which the bull is, but I believe he's purebred angus.
The other option is of course, taking BC back to the guy we got the AI done by and having him redo it with purebred jersey semen. Either way we load her up and take her somewhere. The angus is 15 miles away and the AI is about 30 miles away. So that's not that big of a deal to be honest at this point.
My thoughts and why I'm even asking is this... She didn't take or lost it last time right? An angus bull I've been told is a pretty sure pregnancy and I'd really REALLY like to get some milk, and hey, people lately have been talking about how good a beef cow or even cross would make for a family milker. If we should get a heifer out of it, I could work on training her to be a family milker. If a boy, he'll be meaty right?
But I hesitate on that route because we could take her and get a purebred jersey heifer out of it just possibly, which would be worth more probably, to someone.
I wanted to get an AI done with some of the mini bull semen from AnnB, but right now, funds are tight. So I'll have to wait.
I won't get Basil done with the Angus I believe because she's a pretty small cow. I don't know if she could handle it. I haven't figured out what to do about her yet, as we aren't sure she could give birth to a full sized jersey either.
Anyway, any thoughts on BC would be nice. I'm taking all opinions on this under consideration.
Thanks.
Stacy
Let me add: This would be her first calf. I could always breed her pure next time around, or even in the future.
