So you asked for it (okay, only one person asked... but you know you want it!) and here are pics of my girls. As we all know, i am FAMOUS for not knowing when my cows are due or even if they are pregnant.
Here is Rori's story in brief: Rori, who we bought this year, is a registered jersey cow carrying her second calf, she is 3. we bought her 'sure' she was due at the end of nov. by AI. now we just heard form the previous owner she was also serviced once earlier with a due date of sept. 21st. but, the prev. owner said, her vet palped at 6 weeks after that first service and said she wasnt bred. (could this be incorrect? i feel the need to add that this same vet palped her other cow and also said she wasnt bred, but was wrong... so i guess i answered my own question)so they tried again, giving us the end of nov. due date. additionally, after the second service she was with a jersey bull for an entire month. we got Biotracking results on May 20th and they were positive and good numbers - 0.5891 at what was supposedly 90 days post breeding. (90 days after the 2nd AI attempt, 60 days past the last day she was with the bull. had she been bred the first time, which we didnt know about when we got the test done, the numbers would have reflected her being 5.5 months bred.)
Today i felt large, unmistakable hooves and watched a calf kick from the outside from a distance. i am not kidding myself here, i checked and re-checked. she also has had serious hind-end changes that i have been in denial about for two weeks. we recently (4 weeks?) dried her off, because the milk started to taste bad. the more i write the crazier it all sounds... i will let the pictures speak. is it possible she isnt due until Nov 27th? is it possible she is due Sept 21st? and finally is it possible she isnt due until after Nov 27th, by the bull she was in the field with?
Moving on to Nimue. there is no question, she is with (large, kicking) calf and due Sept 28th. lots of mucous these days.
And our lovely pyrs. they are 3 months old +. love them.
