I will post some new pics tomorrow when I have daylight, but did want to get back with people on her recovery.
On Tues I had the vet out to take an ear notch to test her for BVD-PI just in case. I'm not really worried about that result, I think she's fine in that way.
She seems to be picking up in condition and spirit. We had about 2 weeks where she wolfed everything down and then went slightly off feed again. Now I've cut her ration back to 1/2 what it was and give her all the time she wants to finish it and she's been finishing it.
I've also pulled the calf completely because after she went off feed again, she violently objected to Poppy nursing. And I could tell she didn't have any milk anyway.
So it's been about a week (I think) since Poppy nursed. she has been dripping some, so tonight I milked her out good, hopefully as a last time.
MY QUESTION: Can I give her a Tomorrow infusion when I get one at the store tomorrow morning without remilking her?
I felt like she was probably clumpy in one quarter. She only had about .5 gallon maybe .75 gallon total.
I'd also like to know whether I should quit totally giving her the little grain and alfalfa that I do? I was trying to use it to put weight on her and since she didn't swell up that much in a week with milk, I was hopeful it was going to condition and not milk. But I could cut it out completely. She has a big bale of excellent brome in the shed and pasture, minerals, salt.
My thought is she's going to be dry for 9+ mos, so won't she pick most of her condition back up in that time anyway? As soon as her test result comes back (with a good result I'd like to move forward with having her bred. I know she's thin, but a cow will usually do fine getting pregnant if they're gaining weight and she will have ample time to put into a calf while not lactating.
