This is starting to get kind of funny. One day last year, when I was wishing for a hen to go broody, Rich said, "Be careful what you ask for - they might ALL go broody and then you wouldn't get any eggs." I laughed, hahaha, yeah right, THAT'LL never happen!
I currently have one broody guinea hen sitting on a batch of eggs, one for sure broody Brahma hen sitting on a batch of eggs, two missing Brahma hens that I suspect are sitting on eggs, and one Brahma hen that was gone for almost a month but came back without chicks (don't know what happened with her). Yesterday, another Brahma hen that has been spending an awful lot of time in the small wooden nestbox in the corner of the coop decided to sit. She hasn't budged since yesterday morning.
So I have hatched a plan (haha, good pun!). I'm going to steal 5 or 6 eggs out from under the guinea hen and give them to the broody in the coop, rather than giving her chicken eggs. The guinea eggs are due to hatch the end of this month, and I'm hoping that a chicken will have a better chance of raising them than their guinea mom. I'll still leave a bunch under the guinea, but I've been really hoping that one of the Brahmas would go broody - and in an accessible place - that I could put some guinea eggs under.
I will don my thick leather gloves in a bit and go see about nipping some eggs out from under that guinea. With any luck, I should have some new guineas AND a bunch of new chickens within the next couple of weeks!
