We are desperate to make a success of our garden this year after we made a flop of it last year. We got it in just too late and it got hot and dry and didn't rain here for over 7 weeks. Despite all the weeds right now, this is the best my garden has looked in years.
We are getting so much rain now though that I am having a hard time keeping up with the grass that wants to grow in between my rows. They still like to grow even when it is impossible for me to hoe them up. It is hard to hoe it up when it just clumps to the end of the hoe. I have some landscaping fabric on order and am going to put that down this week so I don't have to break my back with the hoe anymore.
In this shot from the north I tried to get a pic of the whole area. It is 36 X 72 of tilled area and we have some raised beds also where our onions, beets, lettuce, cukes, peas, jalapenos, and basil are planted. You can tell the difference in what we mow and what weeds and grass have decided to try and take over what we have already tilled.
Here is a walk down the long way (west side):
BEANS
RAPINI BROCCOLI - I Won't grow this again; it bolted almost immediately and despite me picking of the flower heads, it is still bolting. I am going to let it reseed and see what happens for the fall. CABBAGE on the right
ORANGE SUN PEPPERS AND YELLOW SQUASH
CARROT RAISED BED AND 2 MORE ROWS OF BEANS
CAULIFLOWER AND BRUSSEL SPROUTS
REGULAR BROCCOLI, THEN ROWS OF EMERALD GIANT PEPPERS AND ZUCCHINI
CORN AND A ROW OF WINTER SQUASH
Along the east side I have my tomatoes. I have the rest of the row planted now and I think that there are 80 plants along the whole length of the garden:
We also have some hills on the end with watermelon and pumpkins. The garden area behind our house has asparagus, raspberries, and we will till to plant sunflowers and mangle beets for the animals. We will also plant another variety of winter squash back there.
Once I get it cleaned up and weed barriers down I will take more pics. It will look much nicer then.
