Just a little FYI for those of you who are trying to figure out how to do broilers without soy and corn. This is an email from Don with Fertrell...
Good morning Jennifer
I have attached two rations for your review. Neither of them met the
protein needs of a broiler for a starter ration. You will need to add
some additional fish meal to the starter and grower rations.
Ration w/No crab and no soy
1 to 3 wks. 2.5lbs. per 5 gal bucket
3 to 5 wks. 1.5lbs. per 5 gal bucket
5 to market use base ration

.... the funny thing is I listed raw milk as an available ingredient but it wasn't included. Here's another question, since chickens are omnivores is there a problem with feeding small amounts of ground scrap meat from animals I have raised myself? There seems to be this big challenge of getting enough protein so why won't raw meat (mainly beef) work if it is from a clean safe source? I know they will eat mice (just saw it last week!) and other little critters they can catch.
