I don't see these 2 modalities mentioned much when issues arise so I thought I'd give a little "diddy" on both. I've been using and studying ( 1 formally) both of these for a number of years and have been the" homeopath" in a holistic vet practice in the recent past.
Homeopathy, uses the principle of "like cures like" That if a substance can cause symptoms of disease in a healthy being it can cure a sick being suffering from similar symptoms. The remedies are prepared from natural sources and are HIGHLY diluted so that none of the aggravating aspect of the substance remains. They are a more " energetic" medicine, not hocus pocus It's been in use for over 200 years.
Homeopathy is gentle, non toxic, VERY inexpensive, easy to administer as thay don't taste bad at all, and it's fairly easy to "pick" a remedy even if all you have is a "human how to book" All the remedies are the same regardless if they are to be used on critters or people. They don't interfere with conventional medicines, herbs,or acupressure.
There are 2 ways to use homeopathy the first being in a acute situation, right here and now and the second being constitutionally, which means someone trained in homeopathy takes a full history of the being ( human or animal) Their physical, emotional, mental status, their likes, dislikes, what makes them worse or better, everything that makes that "being" unique. Then they research over 2,000 remedies each with it's own picture or personality and finally decide on 1 remedy that fits the whole picture and prescribe on that.
Homeopathy can help ease pain, inflammation, emotional trauma, mental issues, birthing issues, etc, etc. Many times something traumatic or otherwise will happen and the animal or person is "just not right afterwords" homeopathy can help. Moving an animal to a new home can be distressing, with one remedy in particular( Aconite) you can be pro-active against issues arising from the experience.
I personally have seen it help many issues in people and animals. Myself included as I've had a constitutional remedy done by a certified homeopath for UTI's and have not had one since, over 2 1/2 yrs ago. My friends noticed my overall outlook was better, I was more balanced and able to handle day to day issues that arose better. I lost my mom 3 yrs ago and we were VERY close and it unbalanced me in many different ways and my body showed it in sickness.
I've helped one of our horses who was choking, my 25 yr old horse who had a bout with uveitis( aka moon blindness) last year with no steroid treament it is gone, one w/ skin issues, a 28 yr old with a pulled suspensory ligament, he is still being ridden.
DH uses alot for stomach upset, burns, toothaches, etc.
I really am impressed and love homeopathy because it lets one take control of a situation, even if you need the vet you can be doing things while waiting and maybe when the vet arrives there will be nothing for him to do, I've had it happen more then once!
Flower essences are probably more known to more folks as in Rescue Remedy. These are again diluted essences from flowers or plants that Dr. Edward Bach " discovered" These are prepared using just about the same method as homeopathy. They work more on the emotional plane, and can work wonderfully with homeopathy. There are I believe 28 essences. I haven't formally studied these as with homeopathy. Each essence with its own "personality"
There are plenty of home help books that cover humans and animals and the essences are the same for both. Again these are easy to use and administer, non-toxic, alittle more costly in the beginning then homeopathics but they go a very long way as you only need a drop or two in water.
I once did a case on a cat who was freaking out over his reflection in the window at night. When the vet and I went to the home the couple was experiencing a "in house separation" When I picked the essences I took all of this into account, this was the cats family and he was upset as the humans. I called in 1 week and the "mom" was AMAZED! He had settled down and wasn't afraid of his shadow any longer. It has also been used successfully for litter box issues, separation anxiety, over grooming, etc.
Now I want to say that while I have had many successes with both and turn first to these 2 modalities when issues arise that as with any healing modality whether conventional or otherwise sometimes we just can't find what works. And sometimes we have to realize that sometimes "healing" does not mean making "better" These remedies can also give a being the "permission" to let go from this lifetime, and gives peace to those left behind.
I hope this has given a brief insight into these 2 wonderful medicines, that all of us can use effectively even if you are new to them. We learn them by using, doing and seeing the results. Will you have success every time? No, but neither does conventional medicines and at least you are doing no harm and more importantly you are doing something.
If anyone would like help with a particular issue I'm more then happy to help ( no $) as I have all my reference books at home. You can also go to nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org for more info.
Blessings to all of you for your immense help & wisdom you have offered and shared with me, I'd like this to be the "return" gift as it's all I have to offer.
