;D
After months and months(we bought day old chicks), we have had our first egg from our chickens!
Well...actually...it may be the second...or third. Not really sure. Mike and I were checking the perimeter of the chicken yard because we had a girl wandering outside the yard, when, tucked under some weeds, what do we see, but one solitary little egg!
So...we found the hole, took that egg, marked it, and tucked it in one of the laying boxes.
So...yesterday, I peek in the boxes and *poof* Two little eggs! Such smart chickens we have!
Now...I just need to get a cow, and I'll be making some awesome omelets for breakfast!
We did get our little barn just about finished this weekend. Need to get some hardware for the door(need lag screws..I think...) and it'll be all done. It has a nice deep bedding of straw, resident barn kittens, electricity, and a milk maid(Me!) just ready and eagerly waiting the arrival of a cow.
Still looking though....spent the end of last week cussing at myself...about 5 hours away, a gentleman had two milking jerseys for sale...1-first calf, 1-second calf. the second calf one wasn't bred back yet, and wasn't due to be until next month. 4 quartered, but one quarter a little light, both were 4H cows. He wanted 2100 for both(I nearly said sold at that point!) and 600 for the one with the light quarter. Not being really confident, I called my husband, he said, okay, we'll take it...I didn't call right back, called the next day to see about seeing the cows and someone had already been to see them and was most likely going to take them...and did.
*sigh*
So close...but, he's said that he'll have another one freshening in January or February, and he's going to keep my number(and I'm keeping his) in case we haven't found our girl yet by that point. I'm sincerely hoping to have one well before then...in fact, I keep telling my DH, Mike, that I want a cow for my birthday(10/27).
But, for the time being...still looking...
