Does anyone have any experience with Synergy animal products? I would especially love to hear if you did testing before and after using the product and if it cleared any bacteria but I am willing to take experience just based on what observed too. I have seen youtubers use it in the past but they aren't necessarily ones that I would take my milk cow advice from so I'm hoping there are some first hand accounts on here.
Backstory- We have a cow that had "staph- other species" in two quarters of her udder last lactation. Upon further questioning the lab told me it was staph haemolyticus specifically. I don't find a ton of discussion in relation to mastitis but in people it will move into wounds or cause utis opportunistically and is pretty antibiotic resistant. The SCC in these quarters seems to run in the 100,000-200,000 range, at least at the end of last lactation but absolutely no signs of clinical mastitis. She also had another quarter which presented with clinical signs and an SCC of like 3.7 million I think but both times I tested that quarter came back negative for bacteria. I dry treated all quarters with Quartermaster per my vet and hoped for the best. She has since freshened again and we are two weeks in. All 4 quarters look good on the CMT and the filters are nice and clean. The milk is straining well. My husband took a shot at trying it yesterday and he said its gross. It has a watery flavor, almost like there is no cream (but there is, we are not calf sharing and she is letting down). From searching it seems that is related to SCC/Bacterial issues. I intend to retest at the lab but wanted to wait until at least 3 weeks. I don't think there are any ketosis issues per the urine dip strips. She is eating 16lbs of grain, unlimited hay and a 20% protein lick. I also use Reashure, Top dressed loose minerals, diamond yeast and vitamin E daily.
So I considered Synergy products last lactation and decided against it because I wasn't sure about the success verses the cost. I called them and this is the combination they recommended for my situation.
Mastic 20cc 2x/day into each quarter until cleared
Hornet 20cc 2x/day into each quarter until cleared
Natural Cow 15cc by mouth 2x/day for 1 week
Clearacel 15cc into infected quarters until cleared
Superior Cow Cream rubbed all over udder
Yellow Jacket rubbed all over udder
The total for those products will run right around $250. Is it worth the investment? Is it safe to infuse these into the udder as it won't be a sterile environment for me to load this all into tubes myself (verses the antibiotic treatments that I assume are preloaded under sterile conditions). This cow is not overly friendly so there isn't any strong bond between us to make the treatment valuable to me. She came from a dairy and doesn't like to be touched or combed but she is excellent at doing her job. She comes right in to be milked, is easy to work with and she stays very clean. Her teats are short and her hoofs grow twisted but our hoof guy said they aren't the worst he's seen. Do you recommend giving this a try or do you just cut your losses? We are currently milking no other cows so I would like to have drinkable milk. We have a new cow that I might be able to milk but we have yet to try because our lives have been chaotic and she's just feeding her calf. So there is benefit in keeping this cow for house milk purposes if it were to taste better.
To add to the mix my old cow who we have been milking for years with no issues, dried off with this same bacteria in one quarter (though her milk still tasted good). I had been using the same claw between cows before I realized the other cow had this issue and I'm guessing we spread it to her that way. We treated her the same way with quartermaster so I suppose I may be able to use this same treatment on her if the bottles go that far and I don't run out? I am emotionally invested into this cow and have absolutely no desire to ship her so there is that too....
Thoughts? Advice? How would you proceed? Is synergy the natural hidden miracle or is it an expensive gimmick?
