I try to keep a close reign on my animal hoarding, otherwise I’d be a complete kennel. Two dogs is my limit.
Was my limit?
My mom lives with me. She doesn’t have many friends and is generally just grouchy 😂 She came home from work yesterday and had a story where one of the guys just got a new puppy, it’s the cutest puppy ever, border collie and heeler amounts, free, cute, sweet, cute. I put up pretty weak fights when it comes to new animals, I still have that new kitten LOL, and figured mom could use a pal that’s hers. She doesn’t really understand the LGDs and just thinks they’re dumb because they don’t listen. Plus they don’t like vehicles so won’t go anywhere and hang out. So I said why not, let’s go look at puppies.
She typically wants female dogs, I typically don’t like female dogs, especially herders. I also am not a huge fan of BC because they’re so timid. Well there were 5 males and 1 female left. We’d talked about personalities if she wants to take the dog to work as it gets older and how I didn’t enjoy females for that since they’re often so bitchy. She wanted a speckly one but the female had minimal white and no speckles and was VERY timid, took us ages to even find which puppy she was! One of the males had lots of speckles but he was also pretty shy, hard to catch and kept hiding in their house.
Meanwhile the other speckly male was a complete shmooze. He was soaking wet because he kept rolling over beside me and just wanted to jump up for love. The bravest puppy of them all by far. So he came home.
Put him in the crate in the hall last night. He cried over an hour straight so she released him behind the baby gate. He distracted himself doing puppy things like finding all sorts of stuff to destroy. A midnight check showed him passed out with puppy pee pad shrapnel everywhere.
This morning he had managed to reach the tub with toques and mitts and had all sorts of things collected besides his couple of socks he was given. He had a half dozen pee puddles, on the pads and around the pads, and almost as many poo piles 😂😂
The outside dogs aren’t very fond of him but that’ll come with time. The cows just ignore him or want to eat him. The cats are snoopy. For chores this morning he got a collar and a long piece of twine to keep him out of danger zones. He should be tired right out jumping through the snow and fighting with his twine, plus he came in and ate a pound of kibble, so I’m sure he’ll pass right out shortly. He’s so tiny it’s quite funny to watch him.
