Hey there! I joined in September but didn't realize I was supposed to introduce myself.
I'm a PNW Christian farm girl. In the past, I have had dairy goats and although they caused me a boatload of trouble, I could never bring myself to get rid of my first and last girl, Zoe. She was an Alpine and had the best flavored milk ever! She and her first two babies were the only goats I actually loved. In January of 2020, I ended up deciding to put Zoe down after a serious infection settled into her hip - the result of a dog bite. It was a sad day. After over 4 years of raising goats, my experience ended there.
Ever since I was a little girl I've "owned" cattle, but started "raising" them under two years ago!π And love it! I mostly deal with young calves and have learned a lot about how to raise them from babies. I'll admit, with too many on bottles at once, it can be chaos and a pain in the neck, but with balance it is fun and rewarding! I raise dairy calves and I'm hoping to keep my current heifer (9 months old) for my first milk cow. (If she turns out A2/A2 or A2/I, like my last two girls, that is.) I've milked my sister's cow before, but never had my own milker. I typically have a more natural approach to raising animals unless I'm in a bind.π
My two dogs are my other fav things to spend time with. I love training dogs and have lots of hopes and plans for the future that include dogs!π Sometime when I don't have as many irons in the fire I want to train my 1-year-old Aussie mix to herd cattle.
Aside from animals, I enjoy playing piano and cello, singing, photography (Just a beginner and have lots to learn. Any tips are welcome!!), hiking, spending time outdoors, hanging out with my family and organic gardening. I enjoy growing both flowers and vegetables.
I hope to get to know you all better in the future! You guys have been a great help so far!
