Its been a while, and a winter to end all winters. But we all came through well. I have 3 jerseys, and one is not ok. I 1st noticed a change yesterday afternoon, and see she's the same this morning.
Context: Pure Jersey, 18 months old, open heifer, grass fed and on spring pasture here in Oz. Free hay/minerals/water. They aren't interested in the hay at all for past 6 weeks of green grass.
She's in really good condition. Healthy history. Due in heat in 7 days.
Behaviour change is all i am noticing so far: ears back but warm to touch, head held horizontal to body gazing at her mates in paddock, but seems reluctant to move towards them. Is chewing cud whilst stood still, not laying down. Favouring position of standing on a slope on bank dam facing downhill, head held level with back line. Haven't taken temp, but feels fine to the touch. No sign of bloat and even on both sides of flank, rumen sounds normal, no swelling of rumen area post eating that might be suggesting bloat, never seen a grain in her life. Stayed in run in barn 1hr post others leaving this morning. No change in diet, water supply, routine. Happy to eat Lucerne/alfalfa fed to her, even eating paddock hay bale whilst in barn, but not grazing. Drinking fine. I did notice a fine tremor in her back legs, both when standing on bank, and again in barn when i brought her in to check her over.
I live in the land of poisonous critters, but see no early neuro signs, or a corpse we'd see if it were a bite.
I cant fathom it. ? pain, but no hunched back. No limp when moving suggesting injury to feet/legs, hooves are good. No swelling in any join, no heat.
She's simply NQR. My husband says he cant notice change she seems the same.
Does this sound concerning to anyone? Any suggestions? Baking soda? Walk her to relieve tummy ache in case she has one?
