Long long post ahead...
Reading on some other posts here about AI, I really need some help.
My Leila, she was 2 years old at the end of June didn’t take both times the AI guy did it. First time he did it in July sometime, and next one six weeks later - he was not available at her heat in between that.
Sorry I don’t have the exact dates, paperwork is burried in other paperwork, and I’m not at my desk right now. I could get it if needed later.
Short story is, I took milk sample in after the second AI to Armor Animal Health - former Animal Profiling Int- and it came back inconclusive, but right on the mark of not pregnant/inconclusive. I did not test again yet, she had another super strong heat since then, so I’m pretty sure she is open.
The AI guy is really nice, I like him a lot. He is coming from kinda far away, and always comes the next day when I call him. That always worked in the past, everyone took, including Leila on her first pregnancy.
I was almost considering culling her when I read about the fact that if it’s not the right time, the cervix(es) are not open. He did have a hard time both times to get “ in there”. Granted, she was wilder than a wild horse, and it took long time for him to say ok, its done.
I’m wondering if it was just a bad timing? What should I do or consider doing?
I would absolutely hate to beef her. She is my first cow I had born here and raised, out of Maddie, the love of my life cow.
She was raised right, on milk till about 8 months old, always very healthy and good looking. Not needy, and very easy keeper, tho she does have a strong personality...
She had a beatiful heifer this last May, half Red Angus, birthed unassisted 9 days early, and she is a good mother. Not a huge milker, but I’m ok with that, and given that it was her first lactation, it’s possible that her milk production would go up.
Thank you for any advice you might have for me☺️.
This is her in the summer, I think I posted this before somewhere...
