Hello from way up northern Wisconsin! I know I've been posting on this forum for a few months now but I figured I'd introduce myself formally and share a little about myself. My husband and I traveled and picked mushrooms together all around the western US for years together thinking we'd settle in Idaho or Northwestern Montana, but after getting married and then expecting a little baby we figured we should be close to the grandparents here in Wisconsin. I also love the fall and winter here, its beautiful! Also land was actually affordable unlike out west, so we got ourselves 20 acres with a crooked little house, dilapidated pole shed and barn with missing lots of the roof surrounded by maple and pine woods. Hubby got a regular job and we've scraped by but with no extras for any animals or fixing the property. Then we got those stimulus checks... and after debating whether we should put it towards the principle on our house or use it as capital to pick mushrooms again, we decided to do what we came here to do in the first place, HOMESTEAD!! 5 months later here we are with a repaired barn, a herd of little kunekunes, 16 hens and a rooster, 5 geese to breed this spring, 2 steers, and our greatest prize of all our lovely sweet jersey girl Josie. She is the lynch pin of the whole operation, we are so so so so grateful for her. I plan on learning to make all kinds of cheese this winter, and am already making all kinds of other stuff. I love it!! This forum has been immeasurably helpful to me learning how to care for our girl. There is sooo much to learn and to have a resource like this where I can ask questions directly is incredible. Anyway sorry for the life story, I'm just so excited about this new chapter in our life and want to share!
P.S.- Is there ever any sort of conference, meetup, fair, whatever where family cow owners ever meet up? that would be so much fun!
