I bought a young jersey cross bull last winter and PLANNED to breed my 3 girls this Summer and then butcher him this Fall. We are ready for beef in the freezer so it seemed like a really good PLAN.
Now we are winding down on Summer... Fall and his freezer camp date are coming up fast and I don't think I have anyone bred yet! Darn it... I wanted to get everyone bred somewhere around the last half of July or August and here we are into September and I got nothing... NOTHING!!
I thought Camo was possibly bred since she missed a heat a week ago, then the bull started getting interested a couple of days ago so I put her back in with him. I never saw her stand for him and was hoping she was just having a fluctuating hormonal thing going on, but tonight I see a bright red puddle of blood... more than a regular bleed off. Does anyone have any idea what that means? She calved 4+ months ago and took her sweet time to start cycling again so I guess she just needs more time? She is in excellent condition, not too fat. The bull doesn't have enough time left for her to cycle again...
Unless I come up with a NEW PLAN.
See... this was not part of THE PLAN.
Last years heifer was accidentally bred too young, (by this bull, so he is fertile) my miscalculation, totally my fault, so I gave her lute back in May - thinking we had plenty of time still. She has been cycling since then and I've been putting her with the bull but doesn't seem to be settled yet... :/ Can lute cause breeding back issues?
This, also was not in the PLAN...
My new cow that was VERY THIN when I bought her has been gaining nicely and has had one date with the bull so far and there is time for one more if needed. She is my best hope at this point, but she is just coming off of being REALLY thin.
My PLAN did not come together as was PLANNED...
