We have 3 does that were due to kid next week but I guess 2 of them had different plans! Doe 1 starts labor this afternoon and the first kid was breech and not in a sack, born dead. Second kid was head first but not coming out so DD tried to reach in but could not get a grip. DS tried and was also unsuccessful. Had communicated w/vet but lost the call. When he called back he asked DD is she wanted him to come by and she said yes, lol. Anyway, I then tried to reach the kid but couldn't quite get in far enough when vet pulled up. He was able to get the kid out and started working w/him then handed him off to DD. Vet said he thought he felt a 3rd kid and asked me to try to reach it but I could feel nothing. He rechecked and said it was just her colon he was feeling. Oh, he did give her a shot of oxy. We were unsuccessful at saving the 2nd kid. About an hour after all that DD is out by the barn and doe 1 turns around and DD sees something white hanging out of her! DD runs into the pasture and finds one kid already on the ground and 2nd coming. I got out there and we grabbed the kids and doe and took them to the barn. Doe then has kid 3. Thankfully all 3 of these are alive and well. Unfortunately they are all bucks, we really wanted a doe out of this girl. As kid 3 was being born we look over to where doe 1 is and notice she is contracting again! You guessed it, kid 3! Of course it was dead too. DS said he felt it may have been dead for a bit.
So, we learned how to pull a kid, but lost kids from DD's favorite doe. We think she may have gotten butted (we have one especially mean doe that likes to butt everyone) and that sent her into labor early, because she really has no udder, but that is just a guess. We're hopeful she will still come into milk. We started that doe pen, and we gave her a shot of banimine.
Thankfully doe 3 is showing no signs of being ready to kid. Ha, the other 2 didn't either! And of course it's in the 20's tonight.
Sorry this is so long. And I think I remembered everything.
