So, he’s been alternating between running hard to chase his ball, limping a little, and not touching the foot to the floor. All depending on what he wants at that moment, lol.
DH said he knows when/how it happened, maybe 2 weeks ago or so. He was going to send Rocky out to potty & Rocky got all excited. We have 3 steps leading down to the kitchen door, and make all dogs sit at the top waiting for us to open the door & say “ok” before they’re allowed to plunge down & outside, so no one gets mown over by dogs. (He’s an only dog currently, but manners are still required lol). Apparently Rocky was so excited that he jumped up & down the steps a few times before getting control of himself and sitting at he top for DH to let him out. (Rocky didn’t need to potty that bad, he was hoping DH would play, lol), and on one of his jumps he missed his mark, hurting his foot.
DH thought at the time he just tweaked a muscle a little, like a minor sprain, as Rocky didn’t favor the foot/leg too much, or yelp.
I’d checked the leg & foot a few times, feeling for hot spots or swelling, but didn’t feel anything, and he didn’t pull back like I’d hit a sore spot, so we figured he’s just being dramatic. (He is known for being a baby)
DS saw Rocky licking that foot, specifically at the toe, so he checked closer and found the broken nail. No idea why I didn’t think to check that.
Is there anything I should try to do as it grows out? It looks like the crack goes all the way to the hairline...
It’s the inside toe of the back right foot.
Yes, I know I need to trim his nails. I put it off because he’s SUCH a baby about it, so it takes forever to do by myself. (Not a good excuse, but there it is...) And now this toe is going to be painful to trim. I actually don’t cut them, I use the battery operated file and file them. But even that will be painful. He barely let me take pics of it, he was so afraid I’d hurt his owie, lol.
