Update ...
When we called the processor on Monday, they said our meat would be ready on Friday. We said Friday wasn't convenient. We agreed we would pick up our meat Thursday at 3pm. That is 15 days after the slaughter.
We arrived there today (Thursday) at 3pm. They said our meat wasn't ready and it was on the boning schedule for tomorrow. We reminded them of the phone call, which they remembered and said they had put through the message to the butchers. They were apologetic, but all the apologies in the world doesn't make up for the hour long round trip to collect our meat, only to come home with nothing.
We then aired our views that we had lost all faith in them. They said the right things, managed to make it look not too rehearsed and spoke about letting the owners know that some of their customers were less than impressed with their service. Hmmm. Not really convinced.
Interestingly, neither knew what is actually on their website regarding hanging times.
The first time I asked the question about whether it was actually our meat, it was directed to the younger woman. She just stared at me blankly. The older woman arrived. She said she could 'absolutely guarantee' it would be our meat. I reminded them of how many times they had told us our meat would be ready only to change the day/time and said I had lost faith in their guarantees.
Then she said, 'If we did need your meat to fulfill an order, we would call you first and then replace your meat with ours.'
The more I think about that statement, the more incredulous I become. My meat is not for sale!!!
I asked if we would get all of our meat. She said we would. I mentioned that our steer came with 33 T-bones. She said that was 'strange'. Ummm again.
They did say repeatedly that they had been busy. I reminded them that I had booked in these lambs in November.
I asked about compensation due to shrinkage because our meat had been hanging for 15 days. They said they would inform the owners we weren't happy.
I also told them I have recorded the cut and weight of every single package we have received from them. I did that in the hope that we will receive three whole lambs back. Whether they are our lambs or not ... I don't know.
So she has 'guaranteed' our meat will be ready at 9am tomorrow. We shall see.
Again, thanks for the support and allowing me to vent.
