You've got plenty of enthusiasm... and we are so glad to have you here. Don't know if you've got a halter yet... One I really like for every day is this:
minicattlesupply.com/products/rope-halter-with-lead
What the photo doesn't show is that the lead runs through a metal ring--if your cow isn't halter broke (you might ask the current owner if she is, and if she isn't could he please tie her up a few times for you before bringing her home...) when you tie w/this, as soon as the cow steps forward, the pressure is released immediately--and she learns to lead that much faster. Also, even though this is "mini cattle supply," this halter/lead combo will fit any size cow. I have several and they fit everything from day old mini jerseys to my bulls...
We look forward to being part of your cowy adventure!
I don't have a halter for her yet! Previously I just used my horses rope halters but I really want a nice leather one for her. I think I'll get that rope one you linked to just in case. I know I will need it for calves and such too.
She is halter broke, she walks right up to the gate to have it put on when its her turn to be milked.
Thanks for the advice! I am almost more excited to get home from vacation to pick her up than I am to go on vacation. Lol!
One other question, would it be best to pick her up right after she gets milked in the morning, so that she has time to adjust to her new surroundings all day before being milked that night? It is a 2.5 hour drive or so.
