I took pics of Marie's udder on the 29th so I could get opinions as to how long before she would be calving. Here is what her udder looked like in January.
Then on the 29th of this month I took more pics of her udder. Here is what it looked like.
and side view
Well after seeing all the wrinkles I just knew it would be an April calf. Well the very next day she was eating, not acting different, and no goo. She had not gained any more to her udder so birth not going to happen soon.
Well just when I think I know everything about cows, my girls let me know that I don't know anything. I check on her just before noon on the 30th. She was down the hill from the barn with her tail sticking out. :jawdrop:Oh no I do not want to drag a calf up the hill to the barn. I go look and I see this (the date on the pic is wrong. My camera is doing it's own thing.)
Oh my goodness look at that udder! Wow it wasn't like that earlier. I could see it fill up. Now to get her up to the barn way up there. She followed me with the grain bucket up to the barn with feet hanging out the back door. Then she walked herself into the barn after she finished the grain. Well she circled around a couple of times then laid down and got down to business. Here are several pics some are graphic birth pics.
I had to tear the bag off the calf's face.
Then Marie stood up shortly after the birth looked at the calf and was so startled! I was worried for a moment because she seemed angry. Up till this point I was right there with her and she was fine. I love the look on their faces when they meet for the first time.
How funny that they both look so shocked! Then after a bit there was this pic. I love this part because you can breath again and know everything is ok.
Oh I forgot to tell you it's a HEIFER!!!
Sorry for the long post I actually had more pics. Now goatlady show this to Sunflower and tell her to get busy!
