Well as the title says we got s new pup. She is a pit lab cross. I know it sounds bad but I do NOT want this dog here.
I do not trust it at all. Has nothing to do with the fact she is a pit mix. I actually love pitties/pit x's. Normally that is. Within an hour of coming home she tried to take a chunk out of my husbands face. He had bent down to pet one of the other dogs and she lunged at him...not the other dog. He is die hard wanting to keep her. Even before that happened I told him something is off with her.
She went through 2 owners in the last 2weeks. I see why. I do NOT want this animal around my kids or other animals. My problem is not so much that she lunged as that she gave zero warning signs. No fixation...nothing.We have dealt with and rehabbed dogs before with bite issues. I am not talking play nip.Guttural I want to rip your throat out growl. Instant red zone. I am certain there is a trigger I just do not know what it was.Maybe I am crazy but we decided to try the same scenario again to see.Nothing..no reaction.
She is roughly 2 months old and Huge!. The proposed mix has to be wrong. She is the same size as a 2 month .GP. That or the age is.Judging by her teeth the age is about right though.
I am leaning more towards a mastiff cross. Her face has that look as well. We gave her a slow intro to each of the other dogs. She does not know how to act like a dog.Currently I have her buddied up with my dog Cookie. Cookie is a goof ball and generally our go to with new dogs
to teach them the ropes. She deals really well with the non sniffer in your face pups. What background I have on the pup is that she was the only dog with hours of alone time and lots of spoiling.(I REALLY hate dealing with spoiled rotten dogs they forget how to be a dog).
She is actually a very dominant pup. Currently she still tries to mount Cookie. That I expected.Cookie is bottom dog here but could care less. One second pup is playing then sits done.Cookie literally walks past and once again instant red. (both are supervised at all times when together).
Currently our other pit cross cannot be near her. Ever since pup went for my husband's face Sugar has been on a hate streak. Sugar will sit and watch every movement pup makes. Each time pup has gone red it has been Sugar that literally pushed her off. That being said I know there is a signal somewhere I am missing. Sugar is top dog around the house. As far as dogs go. Super laid back 99% of the time but completely no nonsense. She is ocd and likes everything in it's order/place.Makes her rounds every morning/evening and at 12&4. Has literally never been a problem with anything new once she knows it is supposed to be here.
This dog she watches like a hawk. It's almost as big as she is and is definitely thicker bodied. Maybe I am just paranoid but my gut says that this pup is going to be a major problem.
We took her in because we had her littermate for a short time and were thoroughly impressed with it. Littermate was a sane, highly trainable , laid back dog. Unfortunately it died of Parvo 4 days after she came to our home. (gave shots the day she came in). Littrmate had been with a different family. They could not handle potty training and her tp obsession. New one we were told it was a lack of time and she had to go.I think there were more reasons than lack of time.
I have no doubt my husband can train this girl but I do doubt her ever being a dog I would trust...at all.
