I had SI fusion 3 years ago. Once I healed, it wasn't too bad unless, you know, I carried heavy objects like feed buckets, or used a shovel or raked. Working from a ladder was a bear. I started using anti-inflammatories on a daily basis, and ended up extremely anemic this spring. The pain was constant, unless I just didn't do ANYTHING.
Finally, I was trying to decide whether to give up on my mare, Branna. I drove over to the local stables and crawled up on one of their lesson horses. I could feel the pull in my groin muscles. After 20 minutes, I went home.
After about an hour, the pain went AWAY! I got so much DONE! So, it looks like I NEED to get on a horse every 2 or 3 days. (time it takes for the pain to come back)
Now, the surgeon had told me that I could ride, but not fall, so I started looking for a been-there-done-that pony. Man! They sell fast! The other problem is that I like to ride the evergreen type, so I was concerned about getting bored. BUT, if it takes the pain away, I was willing to buy a plug.
After many emails and calls, I went to a horse site and found Tatts. Now, there are two reasons that Tatts didn't sell fast. That would be the left testicle and the right testicle. Yes, he's a stallion. But, I know a vet can do wonders for that situation.I called the owner, who invited me down to look at the pony. (he's 13 hands, perfect) My DD and I drove down, taking a saddle with us. The owner was in the field with harvest, but said to go on in and check Tatts out. I put a halter on him and we brushed him. Then, we put the saddle on and I mounted up. He was old dog tame. He hadn't been ridden or used to breed for three years, so was just sitting in the pasture. My DD mounted up and I took a picture.
After we unsaddled Tatts, I called the owner to tell him his pony was sold. I told him we had saddled Tatts and led him around the pasture. He then told me the pony had never been saddled; that he'd ridden him bareback with a halter.
So, here's the first picture:
