I read an article this morning regarding PA's Dept of Ag shutting down a seed sharing program that the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg, PA hosted. (NOTE: The article is written with a good amount of sarcasm, there are several other articles available, but I do enjoy this site.) Here is a link to the article: www.activistpost.com/2014/08/dept-of-agri-shuts-down-cell-of.html#!bvoFx1 When I research something, I have learned getting the information directly from the source is always best when possible. So, I called PA Department of Agriculture. I was transferred 3 times before I spoke with the right person (in my book 3 times without getting disconnected and having to call back is pretty darn good). Courteous young man. I was told that the library was not shut down, that they have met with the library and had agreed on new protocols. This was vague. I called the library, (only transferred once) and spoke with a librarian in charge of the program. Very wonderful person. She confirmed what the Dept of Ag had said. The new protocols do not allow them to share heritage seeds that are donated. (The threat of possible Agri-terrorism prevents that!). They can share packs of store bought seeds, for the current year, if people would like to donate them. They can host a seed swap event with private heritage seeds, but at arms length. There is a Federal Seeds Act Bill of 2004 - haven't had a chance to research that yet - which does not allow selling or distributing seeds unless they have been tested for authenticity, cross pollination, etc. The Library did not sell seeds. They hosted an exchange with 60 participants, but were classified as a distributor.
With Monsanto owning the vast majority of all seeds - what is the agenda? Who profits? Who looses? And why?
No matter which way you look at it, bottom line, we are loosing our freedoms and liberties. So, along with hiding our guns and ammo (if you are lucky enough to own any ammo!) you had also better start hiding your seed banks.
