We have two dogs with arthritis. One of them just has the usual, and is more or less doing OK. But we took the other one to the vet today, and he says that the arthritis is on a nerve, and it is affecting her neurologically so that she can't empty her bladder. He catheterized her, so she's empty now, but this can't continue. If there's anything natural for us to try, we will (the vet has nothing to offer). If we can't find something that will help SOON, we'll have to put her down. That will be emotional for us, but it's also not like she's a favorite dog or anything (my husband is fond of her, though). She's been difficult, actually. She's a pitbull that was dumped out here, and we kept her (for several years now). She likes to attack other dogs (she would kill them if allowed to), so she's been tied up except when she's running with my husband (daily), and except when there was a bear hanging around the house one day and we let her off to help the other dogs keep him as far away as possible (she had something better to do, so she didn't bother the other dogs). One of our other dogs has been her companion (that dog is always willing to submit, so she's never been a target of our pitbull). She also didn't like me at all until the last couple of years (she's mellowed with age). Anyway, that's neither here nor there. Just a bit of background.
Does anyone know of a remedy that would help her? If there is something, we'll try it on our other arthritic dog, too. BTW, we've tried putting turmeric on their food. It seemed to help at first, but they got tired of it and stopped eating their food, so we had to stop giving it to them. And it didn't stop this from happening, either.
I'm posting this in two places here. I hope that's OK.
Thanks!
