Having grown up around animals, I *know* they can sometimes do unusual things. I have been bitten on my side (when I thought that the new foal was cute, and was playing in the stall with it--Mama horse didn't think it was so cute!), ....kicked in the stomach by a deranged pony,
....stepped on (reason for bad knee--the horse had shoes on too!),
....run over by a psycho horse (didn't help the knee any on that one, either! At the age of 15 I was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter Disease--sounds scary but I just live with it!)
...gone over backwards on someone else's horse (both of us--I'm stubborn, I refused to get off no matter how much he was rearing--since he was spoiled and didn't want to leave the barn!! YES, I got back on and rode 10+ miles that day!! I won't play your temper-tantrum game!!)
...kicked a couple of times by my cow in the leg--she at least mercifully missed my knee both times....this stuff happens.
THIS is exactly why DH wanted Loretta to go-- --he was afraid because of my stubbornness that *I* was eventaully going to get hurt with her--and *if* I did get hurt, no back up milker as he refused to milk her--didn't want anything to do with her. A tough decision to make, but things are better around the homefront now......I'm not a spring chicken anymore--10 years ago I would of laughed at him! BUT, after having to have shoulder surgery twice, I did learn I am not invinceable. I am not afraid of critters....just know things like this happen. I take my lumps, and continue on, lesson learned.
I regret that the cow did so much damage to your cheek--(very sensitive facial area!!), but am glad for you it wasn't worse than it was. It is easy to get spooked by them, but like someone else said, don't let the cow win!
How is the healing going now? Please let us know!

Janene,
My cheek still has a scar from Gentle's hoof sliding off of it.
Still some pain when I get over tired....
Other than that, I am fine.
Thank you for asking.
Blessings,
Laurie
