Well my barn is being finished up and my next plan was to create a small rabbit area. My thought was to create something much like the hutch we built 2 years ago only less wood (all the wood is rotting and attracting termites) and much BIGGER. So for the rabbit hutch is like 3 rooms up top with little rabbit holes to crawl into them and a ramp that leads down bottom. The whole thing is like 8 ft by 5 ft and has a smallish door the kids can walk in to sit and play with the rabbits.
The biggest problem has been that the floor is covered in wire mesh and so cleaning up the poo is a tad hard. You find you just get caught every 1/2 inch on the wire. I'm thinking maybe this time I could dig 1 ft deep or so and have the whole flooring underground a bit so cleanup would not be so hard. Or maybe a system to catch droppings from the top part that leans down to a bucket or something? That would make a big part of the cleanup oober easy. How much floor space do you think 5 does and a buck would need for it not to be covered in poo all the time?
We have them in the current hutch and since they all like each other it has gone fine with this way of raising them. And the top "rooms" area creates shade for when they want to get out of the sun at the bottom. I know they will end up digging, but I actually want them to e able to do that. I hate the idea of them living in cages and never getting to do what's natural to them.....
Any more ideas would be great. Ways I could make it better.....etc.. Sure wish I knew how to weld!
