We've decided this year, after last year's fantastic experiment to do some more SFGs. We're going to build them in a horse shoe type shape. I believe we will two of those. They will equate to four SFG's each. My one last year equaled two SFGs (not counting the herb garden).
Mike's already tilled up a new area for his garden in the back this year as well.
We're doing a farmer's market so it's important to us to do the best we can.
I still lack a decent way to grow regular potatoes, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort for the price of them at any rate. I'll experiment more with what I was trying with them last year, growing them in hay. I believe the heat killed them off for me unfortunately. I'm willing to try again.
The tomatoes took up a gross amount of room in the SF garden last year. I'd still like to have them so I think we'll just stick to planting them out back in Mike's bigger ground garden. That leaves me with a LOT of room to plant a LOT of stuff.
Seeds are coming out everywhere and my local hardware store also had some garlic, of which I bought a few bulbs and some shallots of which I bought a few as well. I will plant those in the new SF gardens.
For the Farmer's market sales, I want to increase the amount of herbs I'm growing. No one else is selling any there so I was hoping they'd go over well and they are so easy to grow!
We found that asking at the local hardware store netted me some vermeculite at just $20 a 4 cubic foot bag vs. how I ordered it last year through the Greenhouse mega store and although the price was low, the shipping got me. I am to pick up 8 bags when it arrives in a couple of weeks. YAY!
So the new year of planting is well on it's way to starting. I am going to use cinder blocks again, but I don't think I'll just fill them with strawberry plants again. Those went nuts last year and tried to put lots of little starts down into my main garden. I am considering other things, maybe the garlic even? Who knows....
