Only you guys will REALLY appreciate my excitement!!
We have been building a new milking room!!!!!!!! It is going to be SOOOOO nice!!
It has a REAL tin roof on it, not just a tarp, cattle panels covered with a tarp, not plywood covered with a tarp!! It will be enclosed on all four sides. It will have HOT running water It is going to have a drain in the floor (which is decomposed granite covered with stall mats) so I can hose it out. I am not really crazy about the stall mat flooring as it can be slick, but I guess we can't have it all..... I will get to have shelves, and LIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!
And POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND it has a stanchion in it so I don't have to tie the girls up in a corner to milk them!! The stanchion is built to have 2 cows at a time in it,
I finished the stanchion head catch part yesterday and I am just THRILLED with how it turned out. There is a space in between the to catches so I can put the calves in a little 40x40 inch pen right by Mommy's head so she won't stress about were the baby is, and I don't have to deal with baby running amuck in the milking room. I made the actual catch part that levers back and forth to catch their heads out of 1 5/8 inch pipe and it is set up so tat if there is a wreck and someone falls down I can just pull the pipe up and release the bottom of the catch, if that makes any sense. I will try to get some pictures so you guys can see what I mean. The goats will be moved into the adjoining 10x12 pen, so they will be right next to the milking room.
The other plus is that I got the hot water heater, and the decomposed granite for free. A girlfriend of mine tore down her stud pen and gave me all the 3/4 inch plywood from that as she was just going to haul it to the dump. That was kind of sad, though. Her stud, PF Son ofa War Leo, died
We already have all the pipe and fittings to plumb in the water. We also had the all the lumber and posts for the stanchion. I have now recycled some of that lumber from 3 different projects!!! So, all we have into it dollar wise is about 280 for the roofing. We REALLY shouldn't have spent that, but we were going to have to buy a new tarp, no matter what, and that was going to cost half of a permanent tin roof so we bit the bullet and went with the real deal.
I am soooooo stoked!!!!!
